Claire Jowett


Claire Jowett Claire Jowett was born in Leeds and studied music at the College of Ripon and York St. John. Her musical experience is considerable and wide ranging, as orchestral player, singer, chamber music player and teacher.

She is currently leader of both York Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of St. Olave's and in addition plays in several other ensembles including the City of York Guildhall Orchestra and the York Opera Orchestra. As a soloist, she has performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 2 in D with the Academy of St. Olave's.

Claire is also a well-known teacher in the area, teaching both violin and viola at Bootham and Pocklington Schools and is also a member of the Pavilion String Quartet, giving regular performances across North Yorkshire.

As well as an instrumentalist, Claire is also a well-known singer. She is one of the founder members of the York Cantores Choir in which she frequently sings solos. In addition, she is a member of two vocal quintets, one of which gave performances in the south of France in summer 2000. The other, known as "Going for a Song", works in North Yorkshire schools promoting singing.
