Conductor’s first visit as president

WELL-KNOWN conductor Basil Cameron will make his first visit to York since he became president of York Symphony Orchestra, when he attends a concert by the orchestra in St. Peter’s School, on Thursday night.

He used to play the violin in the orchestra as a young man, some 60 years ago. During his visit to the city, he will stay with Dr. and Mrs. Francis Jackson.

He succeeded as president the late Sir Benjamin Dawson, and is planning to attend the Wednesday night rehearsal for the concert.

Two members of the Tunnel Trio, John and Cbarles Tunnell, nephews of Mrs. Irene Hawkins, of Middlethorpe Drive, York, a well-known violin teacher in the city, will play at the concert Brahms’ Double Concerto

The conductor, who played the violin in the orchestra early in his career, watched the rehearsal last night for a concert he is to attend tonight at St. Peter's School.

He is staying with Dr. and Mrs. Jackson, while he is in York.
