We have touched, more than once, upon the possibility of York as a big musical centre; and it is gratifying to know that here and there, gradually, steps are being taken to make more of music in the city. It hasand this is one instancejust been decided to revive the York Symphony Orchestra, under the conductorship of an experienced professional musician. As Mr. Edmund M. Smith, the secretary, says, the work will have to begin largely de novo but the orchestra should, nevertheless, be able to achieve good things. From 15 to 20 of the pre-war players are still amongst us and there are sure to be others who would care to join. A general business meeting is to be held next month, when it is hoped the orchestra will be put on a proper business footing. Success to its every effort.
