In Brief
Orchestra grant to tune of £5,5OO
THE York Symphony Orchestra has received a cashboost from a national arts foundation. The increasingly popular orchestra has won a grant of £5,500from the Foundation for Sports andArts based inLiverpool.
The money will be used to hire larger halls for performances, as the orchestra’s main concert venue, The Guildhall, in York, has recently been unable to cope with the size of audience it now attracts.
The grant will also enable
the orchestra to extend its repertoire and engage higher profile soloists.
