YORK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
RULES
(MADE SEPT. 18TH, 1913) .


Name and Objects.

1. The Society shall be called the York Symphony Orchestra. It is established for the practice and public performance of orchestral music.

Officers and Committee.

2. The officers shall consist of :— 3. The affairs of the Society shall be managed by a Committee consisting of the Conductors, Secretaries and Treasurers, and six members of the Society.

General Meeting

4. A General Meeting of the Society shall be held annually as soon as may be after the close of the financial year on the 30th April, at which the annual statement of accounts shall be presented, the officers and committee elected, and and any other business transacted which may be within the competence of a General Meeting under these rules.
5. An extraordinary General Meeting may be called by the Committee at any time, and shall be called within 14 days of receipt by a Secretary of a requisition signed by at least six members and stating in general terms the object for which the meeting is desired.
6. Members of the Society, and subscribers of not less than 10/- whose subscription for the current year is paid, shall be entitled to attend and vote at General Meetings. Ten days' notice of a General Meeting shall be given, or sent by post, to each member and subscriber entitled to attend.

Election of Officers and Committee.

7. Nominations of candidates for election as officers or as members of committee, shall be sent to one of the Secretaries four days at least before the meeting, and the Secretaries shall send to each person entitled to attend, together with the notice of the meeting, a nomination form for the purpose. The consent of the persons nominated shall first be obtained.
8. The election of officers and committee shall be by ballot.
9. The existing officers and committee shall remain in office till the election of their respective successors.
10. Casual vacancies shall be filled up by the Committee and the fact reported to the members at the next rehearsal or meeting.
11. One member of the Committee each year shall be ineligible for re-election for one year. The member so to be ineligible shall be decided by the Committee by agreement, and in default of agreement by lot.

Subscription.

12. The annual subscription for members is 10/-, payable at the beginning ofthe winter rehearsals. The Committee have power to exclude a member whose subscription is not paid by the 31st December.

Election of Members.

13. Candidates for Membership of the must be nominated by a member by letter containing such particulars and information as the Committee may require and sent to a Secretary. Candidates (except in special cases) will be required to submit to a musical test prescribed by the Committee, and if the Committee approve the nomination, they will elect the candidate and announce the fact at the next rehearsal or meeting of the Society.

14. The Committee have power to terminate the membership of any member whose membership is in their judgment for any reason detrimental to the interests of the Society.

Rehearsals .

15. Sectional and full rehearsals shall be held at times and places fixed by the Committee. A record ot the attendances of members at all rehearsals shall be kept. Members who have not attended three-quarters of the rehearsals (including sectional rehearsals) will not be allowed to play at the following concert. The Committee, however, may modify this regulation in special cases.
16. Members must not bring friends to rehearsals without previously obtaining the permission of the Conductor.

Borrowing of Parts.

17. Members may borrow parts for home practice under the following conditions :—
18. Members must pay for new copies of parts lost or damaged by them.
19. Any member knowing that he or she will he unable to attend rehearsals for some weeks is requested to inform a Secretary accordingly.
20. The music and properties belonging to the Society may be hired by other Societies or responsible persons. All negotiations for the hire of music must be made through a Secretary.
21. These rules shall not be altered or annulled, nor shall any new rules be made, except at a General Meeting called for the purpose. Each member shall be entitled to a copy of these rules.
