Letter from Dr. Smith to Mr. Daniel (YMS), 1915

letter from Dr. Smith, 1915 27 GROSVENOR TERRACE,
YORK.

18th. June, 1915.

Dear Mr. Daniel,

I was rather grieved the other night by the cold reception which my reference to the York Symphony orchestra met with from the audience, and by references which one of you made in our subsequent conversation about the competence of the orchestra.

In reference to the latter point, it did not occur to me until afterwards to mention that at the Brahms Requiem service at the Minster last December the item which seems to have impressed the musical people I have since met with was the Y.S.O.'s rendering of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony,- that was considered to have been the gem of the whole evening. Please note.

Yours faithfully,
[Dr. E. Smith]
