Invitation to YSO to subscribe to Mr. Noble's Testimonial

17th. February 1913.

To the members of the York Symphony Orchestra:-

Dear Sir or Madam,

(Re the approaching departure of Mr. T. Tertius Noble)

We have been instructed by the Committee to inform you of the proposed movements in the direction of giving expression to the general regret occasioned by the approaching departure of Mr. Noble and. to the general appreciation of the great services he has rendered to our City and district and its musical societies

A public City and County meeting is to be held on Friday afternoon, the 2lst.instant at St. William's College, at 3 o'clock, at which His Grace the Lord. Archbishop of York has kindly consented to preside. The members of the Y.S.O. are hereby invited. to attend.

The outcome of this influential meeting will most probably be a large City and County Testimonial scheme, to which persons of all classes will be invited. to subscribe. It will also be suggested. that the testimonial should. take the form of a purse of money.

Your Committee have careful1y considered the matter, and they conjecture that the members of the Orchestra would not only wish to subscribe to the above—mentioned Testimonial, but that they would also desire to present Mr. Noble with some special gift from the Orchestra which he formed. and which is so dear to him; and yet two separate subscriptions would probably be found to be troublesome.

The Committee, therefore, suggest:—
(a) that members of the Orchestra should send. in the whole of what they wish to subscribe to the Hon.Secretaries;
(b) that a percentage of those subscriptions should. be devoted. to the purchase of a gift to be presented to Mr. Noble on behalf of the Orchestra only
(c) that the remainder of the subscriptions of the Orchestra should be sent as a lump sum contribution to the above-mentioned City and County Testimonial fund, in the name of the Orchestra. The names of each of the members subscribing (but not the amounts subscribed) would probably be published.

The form of the Y.S.O.'s Gift will be a matter for decision at one of its future meetings, when we know what funds we shall have at our disposal.

It is, therefore, very desirable that you should send in your subscription to the double fund, to us before March 4th.

We are, Yours faithfully,
HERBERT HEY.

EDMUND M. SMITH,

Hon. Secretaries
