£42 surplus
The new treasurer, Mr. Brian Snelson, reported a surplus of £42 over the last year, despite a heavy deficit from the orchestra’s second concert.
Secretary Mrs. Grace Steveus. said that if the orchestra had to pay all professionals it would be bankrupt. The solution had been to give a fee to those who played instruments in which they were specialists.
“Without the professionals, no amateur orchestra would be able to approach the standard required today,” she said.
Co-operation between professionals and amateurs produced a good orchestra. she added.
There was discussion, but no decision as to whether the orchestra ought to continue rehearsals in summer. The committee will thrash out this point later.
